Riccardo Tisci is reportedly collaborating with Nike.
It’s been claimed the creative director of Givenchy has been in talks with the sportswear giant for some time.
At the moment details of the partnership are hazy, but WWD claims it’s likely Riccardo will create a line of sneakers.
The designer has a history with Nike, having curated a project which saw artist Marc Turlan create a line of footwear with the activewear company.
Riccardo is known for taking his collaborations seriously, which is why he doesn’t sign up to too many. He famously worked on the cover for Kanye West and Jay Z’s collaborative album Watch the Throne in 2011, which wasn’t much of a surprise given his firm friendship with Kanye.
Riccardo famously designed the floral dress and matching gloves Kanye’s now-fiancée Kim Kardashian wore to the MET Gala last year and the rapper is even said to be encouraging his partner to pick Riccardo as her wedding dress designer.
It’s unlikely the Givenchy creative took advice from Kanye before agreeing to work with Nike though. The rapper has a difficult relationship with the company, which he recently accused of withholding royalties after he created a line of Yeezy sneakers with them.
“Nike told me, ‘We can’t give you royalties because you’re not a professional athlete.’ I told them, ‘I go to the Garden and play one-on-on one. I’m a performance athlete,’” he fumed during a radio interview.
He then claimed he would be moving his work to Nike’s rival ADIDAS, claiming he wanted to ensure he could provide for his daughter with Kim, North.
The star later apologised for his remarks.
“I’m still gonna do music but I really do feel honoured to have had the chance to blow Yeezy up with Nike and I really appreciate everything they did for me,” he said.
