Andreas Melbostad thinks Diesel Black Gold reflects rock music.
The designer is set to unveil his first ever menswear collection for the label as part of Italian tradeshow Pitti Uomo on Wednesday.
This year’s event, held at Florence’s Stazione Leopolda, has a theme of Rock me Pitti. Andreas can’t wait to show off his new ensembles and believes they reflect the subject of the occasion perfectly.
“[Pitti Uomo is] a unique opportunity and such a fine stage for Diesel Black Gold,” he told WWD. “I realised rock is also close to the Diesel Black Gold attitude. The emotion comes from the recognition of the original and iconic tracks, reworked and remixed for a new feeling.”
Andreas’ collection is focused on “silhouette [and] construction”. He wanted to offer tailored pieces to wear with Diesel’s leather and denim items.
“A subversive way and irreverent attitude inform my approach to both the women’s and men’s collections,” he explained. “I look at opposing and different textures in contrast to traditional materials with innovative finishings… This is a very good moment for menswear – an exciting one as men are getting more individual in expressing themselves and taking a different approach.”
Renzo Rosso, founder of Diesel’s parent company OTB, is thrilled Diesel Black Gold is included in Pitti Uomo for 2014. He is excited to see how Andreas will reveal his pieces on the night.
“I strongly believe in the Italian fashion system and in the promotion of Italian excellence. Therefore, I am particularly glad Pitti chose Diesel Black Gold as this season’s special event, as Pitti is among the best international fashion moments and our contemporary line is perfectly reflected in its creative values,” Renzo added.
“Congratulations to Andreas, from what I already saw he will create a spectacular, impactful show in line with the label’s DNA.”
