Do you ever leave the cinema thinking, ‘Wow, I wish I could pull off that look?’ If you’re a Hunger Games fan and dream of recreating Katniss Everdeen’s dramatic make-up, now’s your chance.
To celebrate the release of the second instalment Catching Fire why not try out a trend worn by Jennifer Lawrence in the film.
We are focusing on the make-up Katniss wears to complement her glamorous wedding gown. By following these tips you can channel your inner warrior for a night out or a Christmas party.
To begin, use Barry M’s Glamour Puss Eye & Cheek Palette. Katniss may be dressed as a bride but the slightly darker colour on her eyelids reflects her dangerous side perfectly. Once a base is set cover your lids to just above the crease and inner corner in the silver shadow second from the left on the palette.
Next turn to the grey, sparkly colour on the right and apply this to the outer third of your eye and into the crease, being sure to build it up slowly. You’ll also want to sweep this along the upper lash line too before using another brush to apply the matte white colour as a highlighter on your brow bone and inner corner of your eyes. Using a blending brush gently sweep the tip over the eyeshadow to remove any harsh lines.
When this is done you’ll need Barry M’s Bold Waterpoof Eyeliner in BWE to run across your upper lash line and a third along the way from the outer corner of your lower lash line. If you’re more comfortable with liquid, Artliner Liquid Eyeliner by Lancôme is the perfect product.
For more dramatic eyelashes you could always wear falsies to give a theatrical feel. However, applying mascara in the right way will give just as good a finish.
NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara is a voluptuous mascara which defines and separates your lashes. Apply a coat as normal, then when applying the second angle the brush so it styles your lashes outwards to create Katniss’ unique look. This product will leave your lashes looking long and luscious.
Before adding to your lower lashes you need to apply diamantes. Special skin glue is needed for this process, which you can sometimes purchase in the make-up section of high street shops or online and in party shops. Make sure the diamantes aren’t too big and stick four or five underneath your lash line, giving an extra sparkle to your eyes. If you find this too difficult using a dot of clear lipgloss will work just as well.
Now your eyes are done you can concentrate on your cheeks and lips. Revlon’s BabyStick Lip and Cheek Tint in Tahitian will give a matte effect with high pigment colour. You want a rosy finish which harmonizes with your eyes rather than clashes.
Lastly is the soft pink colour on Katniss’ lips. Barry M’s Ultra Moisturising Lip Paints are vivid and moisturising with extracts of Cocoa Butter. The lightest shade LP159 will add a light shimmer and sparkle that is ideal against the smokey eyes. MaxFactor’s Lasting Colour Collections Lipstick in 510 English Rose is another fabulous choice for this glistening finish.
Like in the movie you may want to tie your hair back to show off this look and wear a pair of sparkly earrings to give an added dazzle, then you’re ready to roll!
