De-stress Skin

VARIOUS.Skin Shows Stress

Feeling anxious this Christmas? Psychologists have long-hailed the festive season as the most stress-ridden time of the year.

And when we’re feeling stressed, our skin shows it.

Celebrity dermatologist Dr Howard Murad confirms that it’s easy for the festive season to take its toll on our complexions, triggering cell damage, inflammation, redness and flare-ups.

“Our skin is the largest organ of the body, so it’s not surprising that it’s extremely responsive to stress,” says Dr Murad.

“Stress impacts skin no matter what the skin type or skin care concern is.

“For people with acne-prone skin or using an acne treatment regimen, stress triggers the adrenal gland.

“That creates an over-production of androgens, which leads to an excess of pore-clogging skin cells that then lead to inflamed blemishes.

“For all other skin types, stress affects hormones, which when out of balance can cause dry skin, oily skin, depleted collagen or even dark spots,” he adds.

Luckily there are plenty of products out there, specifically for tackling stressed skin. Here are some to check out:
