Estelle on Scarf Line

2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - Pink Carpet Arrivals. Stelle Presents Own Scarf Line

Estelle has launched her own scarf line after wearing the wraps her “entire life”.

The singer calls her new line Scarves by Swaray a natural progression.

Her designs feature both colourful materials for going out as well as more muted tones for office wear, meaning the pieces can be worn both day and night by a variety of different women.

“I wear and have worn scarves my entire life while travelling, working out, and now sometimes while performing and not just on my head – I wear them around my neck and on my bag,” she explained to America’s OK! Magazine.

“A lot of scarves are made to stand out and therefore not appropriate on your head, say at work. I wanted to create something that could transition to all walks of life. Black is universally accepted everywhere you go.”

Drawing her inspiration from different materials she’s collected, Estelle revealed that one particular print given to her by a family member has a special place in the collection.

“The green African-print one holds special meaning for me. It’s made from a print my grandma gave me, so it’s a bit of a family heirloom,” she said.

The 33-year-old British singer-and-designer also took inspiration from the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens, which followed the lives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ aunt and cousin Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Little Edie, and their eccentric ways living in a decaying mansion.

Estelle isn’t shy when it comes to her own style, insisting she has something special.

“I think Eva Mendes, Erykah Badu, and myself are the celebrities who wear scarves best!” she laughed.
