<description>It appears that the time has come that even in (from within) Australia medical information has been replaced with infomercials.
While it might be true that many myths circulate on the internet about hyperhidrosis and it&#039;s &#039;cure&#039; (sympathectomy), these remain fictional (made up by the medical industry) to justify a procedure that some (from within the medical profession!) describe as criminal.
1. There is no such a thing as a &quot;certain overactive segment&quot; of the ANS.
2. The ANS is NOT overactive in people with hyperhidrosis, the cause is much more complex. (studies were done and published)
3. Sympathectomy is not a cure, and is not permanent.
4. There are studies showing that 51% after this &#039;cure&#039; had a decreased quality of life. For a life-style procedure hat is a pretty sad statistic. Side-effects are not purely inconvenient (the abnormal sweating after surgery is not &quot;compensatory&quot;, again this has been studied and published. maybe you should look up research done NOT by those who earn millions from offering this surgery...) bu by those who have no financial interest in it. Rare but can be found.
The amount of compensatory sweating depends on the patient, the damage that the white rami communicans incurs, and the amount of cell body reorganization in the spinal cord after surgery.
Other potential complications include inadequate resection of the ganglia, gustatory sweating, pneumothorax, cardiac dysfunction, post-operative pain, and finally Horner’s syndrome secondary to resection of the stellate ganglion.
www.ubcmj.com/pdf/ubcmj_2_1_2010_24-29.pdf
Reorganization within the spinal cord=spinal cord injury. Surgically induced.
5. significant impairment of the heart rate to workload relationship was consistently observed following sympathectomy
The aim of the present prospective study was to confirm that a significant impairment of the heart rate to workload relationship was consistently observed following unilateral and/or bilateral (sympathectomy) surgery. Eur J Cardiothorac Surg 2001;20:1095-1100 http://ejcts.ctsnetjourna...i/content/full/20/6/1095
6. Sympathectomy interferes with human physiology (not just sweating!) and affects the overall functioning of the autonomic nervous system (not just part of it).
sympathectomy created imbalance of autonomic activity and functional changes of the intrathoracic organs
