Gwyneth ‘shouted at’ during shoot

Gwyneth Paltrow was “provoked” with “rude names” during her photo shoot with Andy Gotts.

The British photographer is known for his unique pictures of famous names over the years.

When he snapped Gwyneth in 1999 as she promoted her movie Shakespeare in Love, Andy was keen to get a reaction out of her. The finished black and white piece shows her with an uneasy smile, looking to her left as her hair falls over her shoulders.

“She was on a night-time shoot and had a stinking cold. I called her every rude name I could think of to try and provoke her. Halfway through, her assistant came in the door and this is her looking at the assistant as if to say, ‘Help! I’ve got a madman shouting at me,’” he laughed to British magazine Event.

Andy’s controversial techniques also helped him when taking pictures of Scarlett Johansson in 2004. Like Gwyneth, the actress was tired from her busy schedule, but that didn’t stop Andy from getting the four shots he wanted.

“[Scarlett] had just come out of an all-day shoot and said she was bushed and wanted to go back to her hotel,” he recalled. “I made her down two glasses of champagne and asked her to look at the camera and do a range of expressions. We were done in 20 minutes.”

Andy also took a sultry photo of Penélope Cruz in 2009. Instead of aiming for a humorous pose, he wanted to capture the Spanish star’s sensuality, but had to ban her spouse from the studio in order to do so.

“I wanted a sexy, brooding shot, but she turned up with her husband Javier Bardem and they were all over each other like a honeymoon couple,” Andy smiled. “He sat in a corner speaking Spanish and making her laugh. I had to make him stand outside in the corridor for five minutes like a naughty boy.”

In the photo Penélope looks seductively at the camera as she rests her chin on her left hand.
