Kate Moss is to be honoured at next week’s British Fashion Awards.
There have been rumours that the British model would receive a prize for the last month and it’s now been confirmed she will take home the Special Recognition Award.
She’s receiving the trophy to mark her 25 years in the industry, with a host of major fashion players praising the decision.
“From the very beginning Kate was iconic; she never had to become a model,” Donatella Versace said after hearing the news. “She has the same energy, the same seduction and the same wit – in front of the camera and with everyone. I love you, Kate!”
The 39-year-old model was discovered in 1987 and in the ’90s was one of the stars who made the waif look a trend. As well as working with some of the biggest names in the business such as Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs, Kate is also a successful designer thanks to her lines with Topshop.
Her signature rock chick style has been emulated by fans all over the world, with photographer Mario Testino claiming one of the reasons for her success has been her ability to excite people.
“Kate Moss has made many people dream. And not only people that look at fashion but those that create it as well. The moment she puts on an outfit, it takes another identity. She adds personality to fashion and I personally, can never get enough of her,” he added in the statement.
The British Fashion Awards will be held at the London Coliseum on December 2. Yesterday it was confirmed that journalist Suzy Menkes will be receiving the other Special Recognition Award.
