Pfeiffer: I don’t preach vegan

Michelle Pfeiffer’s kids roll their eyes at her healthy diet.

The 55-year-old actress may have given birth to son John, 19, but she’s still in amazing shape, which she says is down to her vegan lifestyle.

She also has adopted daughter Claudia, 20, and both her kids are sceptical of her dinner choices.

“I don’t even need to try giving my children vegan food,” she laughed to German magazine Neon.

“They regularly roll their eyes when their mom tries out something new in the kitchen. I try not to preach though: If my son comes to visit during his uni holidays, I’ll throw a steak in the pan or fry him some chicken.”

She might be healthy now, but the actress hasn’t always been so careful about what she eats.

It was a slow development for Michelle, but she’s pleased she changed her ways.

“Over the past few decades I went vegetarian and then finally vegan,” she explained.

“Cigarettes, coffee and Coca-Cola were my main sources of nutrition when I was a teenager. I worked at a supermarket checkout and wasn’t really sure what to do with my life. But when you’re young, your body forgives a lot; even a really bad diet.”

Michelle is currently promoting her movie The Family, which also stars Robert De Niro and Dianna Agron.

She’s still considered one of the most beautiful stars in the industry, but misses being a little younger.

“The loss of youth, the loss of beauty – it definitely plays havoc with your psyche,” she confessed recently. “There’s this transition from, ‘Wow, she looks really young for her age,’ to, ‘She looks great for her age.’ And there’s a big difference. I’m now at, ‘She looks great for her age.’

“There is certainly a mourning process to that. But, you know, it’s kind of liberating. I don’t need to look younger than I am, because it ain’t gonna change anything.”
