Pharrell: I’m a hippy

56th GRAMMY Awards - Show. Fashionist and stylish.

Pharrell Williams feels like a “hippy”.

The musician is known for being into fashion and as well as showing off stylish ensembles on the red carpet, he kits out fans with his clothing lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

At this year’s Grammy Awards the 40-year-old star made onlookers smile when he stepped out with a huge brown hat on his head.

The choice of accessory might have seemed unusual to others, but for Pharrell it made sense.

“I’m a little bit of a hippy, you know?” he told

“I do what feels right. I can’t really take any cool points for it. At the moment, wearing this just feels right.”

In the past, Pharrell has even described the headgear as “spiritual” and argued that he could imagine The Beatles wearing something similar.

Even at 40 and with five-year-old son Rocket to look after, Pharrell has maintained his youthful looks.

There’s been some jokey speculation that he must be a vampire to still look the way he does, but the Happy singer insists his secret is actually really simple.

“No I am not [a vampire],” he assured his fans.

“I’m willing to go on record as saying that I don’t drink people’s blood. How do I stay so young-looking for a 40-year-old? I wash my face.”

Last year was a huge one for Pharrell, who featured on number one smash hits Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke and Get Lucky with Daft Punk.

While many people loved Blurred Lines, there was some disagreement about the accompanying music video, as the X-rated version showed women dancing topless.

However, Pharrell shrugs the criticism off.

“Is it sexist when you walk around in a museum and a lot of the statues have their boobs out? The women in that video weren’t doing anything sexual: they were only dancing. Just because they had their boobs out, that was ‘sexist’. I didn’t do anything sexually suggestive to any of those women, I wouldn’t allow it. I have respect and I know the message that I want to put out. I’m a fun guy,” he argued.
