Linda Rodin says the Olsen twins “respected” her.
The 65-year-old model-and-skincare specialist made for an interesting choice of model when she was cast by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for their latest fashion collection.
Their clothing line, The Row, has meant the twins have become firm fashion favourites both as style icons and designers.
When they approached Linda to front their new campaign, the experienced model couldn’t resist. She stars alongside younger models Ursula Wallis and Esther de Jong, who she was surprised to learn, get retouched before their photos go to print.
“I knew they respected me and they knew I wasn’t going to show up… young. I think that was what was so interesting: If those two girls find this amazing, when they’re on the cutting edge of everything, there must be something to it,” Linda told huffingtonpost.com.
“They retouch 20-year-olds. I work with them, and I see the pictures, and I know that they’ve retouched this and that and that and this. I just go, ‘She doesn’t even have any wrinkles!’”
As well as modelling stints in her youth, Linda was an editor at Harper’s Bazaar in the ’80s and stylist to celebrities such as Gisele Bündchen and Madonna.
She started her eponymous skincare line in 2008 and counts Gwyneth Paltrow and Liv Tyler as fans.
She found herself back in front of the camera in 2012, when J. Crew asked her to front its campaign.
“I always feel like they’re using me as not just a model, but someone with something going on. I’m not just an old lady who they think looks cute in clothes,” she said of the shoot.
