Vampire Lift Promoted at the Goodie Bag from the Oscars

The Telegraph UK reports that The ‘Vampire Facelift’, or Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) as it is officially known, was one of the freebies in the Oscars goodie bags for nominees at the Academy Awards.

The Telegraph visited a Harley Street Consultant Plastic Surgeon to find out what the procedure is for and how it is carried out.

Dr Basim Matti has performed the ‘Vampire Facelift’ at his surgery on many clients wanting a “more youthful look”, he says.
He explains that it involves taking blood from the patient, processing it in a machine that extracts the platelet rich plasma and injecting it back into the face or neck.
The platelets “stimulate our cells to produce collagen and elastin so they plump the face,” he said.

The Independent explains more about the Goodie Bag:

Los Angeles-based firm Distinctive Assets handed out the cheerfully titled “Everybody Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag” containing €9,000 holidays to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, trips to Mexico and Hawaii, a €4,000 plastic surgery coupon, customised tennis shoes, a week’s stay at a weight loss clinic and a year’s membership to Heathrow’s VIP service.

Among the less illustrious items were condoms, special weight loss kitchenware, Spanx-style control underwear, window cleaning product Windex, acupuncture sessions, posh hand cream and Sedu hair tongues – oh and an elaborate lint remover.

Oscars organisers stopped giving lavish gifts to guests in 2007 after it was scrutinised by American tax authorities. Distinctive Assets, which have been giving out the goodie bags for 11 years, are not technically endorsed by the Academy.

The gift bundle is delivered right to the celebrities’ doors the day after the Oscars. Just an extra perk of being an Oscar winner.
