Louis Vuitton’s upcoming jewellery collection was inspired by “mighty” women.
The fashion house is set to launch its new range Emprise, which also features watches, and the pieces were unveiled during New York pre-fall appointments.
The line took inspiration not only from the brand’s heritage, which includes the iconic monogrammed trunk, but their ideal female wearer.
Louis Vuitton’s senior vice president of watches and jewellery, Hamdi Chatti, explained how the company came about creating the designs.
“[The idea was to take the essence of the trunk and] design it through a watch and a whole collection of jewellery,” he explained to WWD. “We believe that [the collection] is designed for an American customer and for New Yorkers. It started from the idea of a mighty woman.”
Four square-faced watches are the main focus of the collection and are available with either satin or leather straps. With designs made in both steel and gold, some also hold diamond embellishment or a grosgrain ribbon pattern.
Like the well-known trunk, the steel option resembles the lines of Parisian wood panelling on the trunk and all designs have corner caps and notches like nail studs.
Hamdi shared the reason behind these similarities.
“The purpose of the trunk is to protect your stuff. The purpose of the watch is to protect your time,” he added. “Our trunks are custom-made for each customer. We want it to be the same idea for jewellery.”
The jewellery pieces use precious materials such as amethyst, citrine, tourmaline and morganite. Each of these are protected by a cage-like design in the necklaces and rings on offer aim to complement them.
“We want a perfect cut. We believe in symmetry,” Hamdi said.
