Dame Vivienne Westwood is penning a book about her life.
The 72-year-old designer is teaming up with Ian Kelly for the tome, which will be part memoir and part biography.
Ian is renowned for his books on a number of flamboyant subjects, such as regency figure Beau Brummell, who spearheaded the change in men’s fashion for ornate pieces to a more streamlined look.
“The living deserve respect. The dead deserve the truth; Ian and I are working together on this, and I am excited that this will be my story, the story nobody ever did before,” Vivienne told WWD.
Vivienne is a fan of Ian’s book about Beau, which is why she thought he would be the perfect person to work with. In turn he can see shades of the fashionable Beau when he looks at the British designer.
“[I am] keen to tell the truth about a huge-hearted, warm and witty individual, whose face and clothes are known the world over, but who is also recognisably the Derbyshire, [England] primary school teacher who met and fell in love with Malcolm McLaren and changed the world,” Ian gushed.
Ian is also a respected actor, having appeared in releases such as Howards End and In Love and War.
The tome is being published by Picador and will hit stands in October 2014.
It is expected to take in everything, including Vivienne’s early life and her relationship with band manager Malcolm McLaren. Together Vivienne and Malcolm became synonymous with the punk movement, with Vivienne creating clothes which Malcolm dreamt up and selling them in his boutique on King’s Road in London. Even today Vivienne still sells her pieces at the store, which at one time was known as SEX.
In recent years she has hit the headlines for her environmental beliefs. Despite her fashion career she has regularly begged people to buy fewer clothes, insisting it is quality not quantity which is important.
She has friendships with many A-list stars such as Naomi Campbell, Pamela Anderson and Jerry Hall. They have all penned pieces about her which will be included in the book, as has Britain’s Prince Charles.
