As the New Year approaches most of us will be making (and breaking) countless resolutions. Along with the classic going on a diet, hitting the gym more and cutting down on alcohol promises, you should be thinking about how to overhaul your beauty routine for 2014. We’ve made a list of the top five commandments you should definitely vow to stick to – no excuses!
One – I will always take my make-up off
Before we can even discuss what you should be wearing on your face, we need to talk about taking it off. Sleeping with your cosmetics on is a big no-no, especially if you’ve gone to bed with make-up on one too many times over the party season. Keep some wipes by your bed and make it part of your everyday routine.
Two – I will experiment more
Stuck in a style rut? 2014 has to be the best excuse to try out some new trends. The Spring/Summer 14 catwalks offered plenty of inspiration for the New Year, such as bold orange lips at DKNY, pastel eyeshadow at Prada and exciting eyeliner shapes at Roksanda Ilincic.
Three – I will always wear SPF
This probably won’t come as a shock beauty rule to you – we’re always told to protect our skin from the sun, but most of us don’t bother unless we’re on holiday. But if you want to prevent ageing, it’s the best place to start. A moisturiser with an in-built SPF is the best way to incorporate this resolution into your daily routine.
Four – I will exfoliate twice a week
Most of us use a face wash daily and think that’s our skin routine done and dusted. However, only an exfoliator can really get rid of the grime that builds up thanks to products and the environment. Two to three times is often enough for exfoliation and you can use a gentle one should you have sensitive skin. Follow up with a nourishing moisturiser.
Five – I will wash my hair less
Yes you read that right – wash your hair less. Daily shampooing actually doesn’t do your locks any favours, as it strips hair of natural oils and can leave it dry and brittle. Instead aim for giving it a rinse every other day and use gentle products. Dry shampoo will liven hair up between washes.
